MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Buckeye Ridge Habitat for Humanity is expanding its programs beyond traditional home building, offering critical home repairs and launching initiatives to increase homeownership, particularly among underserved communities, according to Executive Director, Lynn Zucker.

Speaking with local radio host Randy Bigley, Zucker detailed the diverse services Habitat for Humanity provides, emphasizing that the organization is “a hand up, not a handout.”

Beyond new home construction, Habitat for Humanity offers critical home repairs for low-to-moderate-income homeowners. These repairs address health and safety issues, including roofs, siding, windows, and doors, enhancing home sustainability.

The organization is also focusing on aging-in-place initiatives, providing ramps and bathroom modifications for seniors. “We’ll do ramps when it’s needed,” Zucker said. “We’ve done things like bathroom fixes and floor fixes.”

Buckeye Ridge Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore in Marion plays a crucial role in funding these programs. The store offers new and gently used building materials, appliances, and furniture at discounted prices. “The purpose of the ReStore is not to give Randy a great deal, though he gets a great deal,” Zucker said, emphasizing that proceeds support the organization’s mission. “The purpose of the ReStore is to fund the mission of building new homes, building our rehab older homes for new owners and doing critical home repair.”
