MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Marion Police Chief Jay McDonald issued a statement regarding a shooting in Marion.
Early Sunday morning, the Marion Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at the OK Cafe. Upon arriving at the scene, officers identified the suspect as 30-year-old Jared Scheck of Marion. Following the initial reports, police tracked Scheck to his residence, where a confrontation ensued.
During the encounter, Scheck reportedly fired at the officers, prompting a swift response. A Marion police officer and a Sheriff’s Deputy returned fire, striking Scheck multiple times. In the aftermath of the shooting, officers provided immediate first aid before Scheck was transported to Marion General Hospital. He was subsequently airlifted to a medical facility in Columbus, where he is expected to survive his injuries.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been called in to conduct an investigation into the officer-involved shooting. No officers were injured during the incident. Marion County Now will continue to follow this developing news story.
