MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)What began as Marion Matters, an organization focused on poverty reduction education, is now extending its services to Crawford and Morrow counties. Natalie Longmeier, representing the newly expanded initiative encompassing Marion Matters, Crawford Matters, and Morrow Matters, recently shared the exciting development.

Longmeier explained that while the name Marion Matters will remain, the organization is “taking the show on the road” to offer its impactful programming in neighboring counties. Crawford Matters and Morrow Matters were officially launched in 2025 and are currently in the development stages, including identifying locations and potential partners. The goal is to offer classes in financial literacy and “Getting Ahead” in Crawford County by the fall of 2025.

Marion Matters, established in 2010 and incorporated in 2011, is built upon the “Bridges Out of Poverty” education framework. This core training aims to help individuals experiencing instability find pathways to stability. The organization offers internal programs like “Getting Ahead,” “Just Getting By World,” and “Money Matters,” a financial literacy course focused on basic budgeting and money management. Longmeier highlighted the organization’s success in Marion County over the past 15 years.

For those interested in getting involved in Crawford and Morrow counties, Longmeier encourages reaching out for information on programming and volunteer opportunities. The organization is currently seeking new board members and volunteers to facilitate classes and education in the expansion counties.

Longmeier also recounted her recent experience speaking at the Statehouse in support of House Bill 96, advocating for the expansion of Bridges Out of Poverty education and the Employer Resource Network throughout Ohio.

Regarding a physical meeting space for Crawford Matters, Longmeier stated that conversations with potential locations are progressing well, with a focus on financial stability. She also extended an invitation to social service agencies and job and family services in Crawford County to connect for potential referrals and partnerships.

“If you’re listening to this podcast and think that this type of programming would be beneficial for the folks that you serve, please reach out to us and we’d love to connect and explain about our programming,” Longmeier said.

Longmeier expressed gratitude to the North Central Ohio United Way for their support in the organization’s expansion efforts, noting that Marion Matters is currently the primary provider of Bridges Out of Poverty and Getting Ahead curriculum in the region.
