MOUNT VERNON, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—The Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred early Monday morning on State Route 229 in Knox County.
Troopers said the crash happened at 12:51 a.m. on State Route 229 near milepost 7 in Clinton Township.
According to the patrol, Ryan Carlisle, 35, of Centerburg, Ohio, was driving a 2016 Ram 3500 westbound when he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle drove off the right side of the road and struck multiple utility poles.
Zachary White, 32, also of Centerburg, was the front seat passenger.
Carlisle sustained minor injuries and was transported to Knox Community Hospital by Mount Vernon Fire/EMS. White was also transported to Knox Community Hospital by Mount Vernon Fire/EMS, where he was pronounced dead.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Mount Vernon Police Department, and Mount Vernon Fire/EMS.
Authorities said alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
