MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Today marks National Donut Day, an annual celebration held on the first Friday of June, honoring the Salvation Army’s “Donut Lassies” who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. For Marion County residents, it’s also a chance to snag some free treats.
Several national chains with locations in or close to Marion County are participating in the sweet festivities:
- Dunkin’: Customers can receive a free classic donut with the purchase of any beverage at participating locations.
- Krispy Kreme: Get a free donut of your choice with no purchase necessary. They are also offering a dozen Original Glazed Doughnuts for just $2 when you buy any other dozen at the regular price.
- Tim Hortons: Tim Hortons members can get a free donut with any beverage purchase.
- Sheetz: From today through June 10, get one free donut with the purchase of any Sheetz fountain drink, Sheetz Bros Coffee, or bottled beverage.
In addition to these national promotions, local Marion area grocery stores and bakeries, such as Kroger locations on Marion-Waldo Road and Marion-Mt. Gilead Road, and Meijer on Marion-Mt. Gilead Road, will also be selling a variety of donuts to celebrate the day. Andrew’s Pastries at 1282 Delaware Ave., a local favorite, is also open and encourages early arrival as they often sell out.
Whether you prefer a classic glazed or a unique creation, National Donut Day offers a perfect opportunity to enjoy a sweet treat and acknowledge a unique piece of history. Remember to check with individual locations in Marion for specific participation details and hours.
