MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Having been awarded no-kill shelter status, the Marion County Dog Pound is striving to find homes for 19 foster dogs and 45 shelter dogs. The Pound offers a foster-to-adoption trial program, allowing potential adopters to ensure a perfect fit for their family.
Currently, the shelter is taking in more animals than it is adopting out. Longtime residents like Carmella, who has been at the shelter for over 360 days, are looking for a forever home where they can relax and be loved.

Carmella is an estimated 1.5-year-old, 50-pound dog. Originally picked up as a stray at just a few months old, she has grown up at the pound. She has been returned from three trial adoptions because she needs time to get used to other dogs
Meet Other Long-Term Residents Ready for Forever Homes:

- Stanley was abandoned by his original owner after being evicted and has spent 362 days at the pound. He weighs 70 pounds and is estimated to be 3-4 years old. Stanley was recently returned due to not being housebroken and destructive chewing. Separation anxiety is very real, and investing in durable chew toys with a safe routine would help Stanley.

- Paisley has been waiting patiently at the pound for almost a year, hoping someone kind and gentle will finally see her. She weighs 50 pounds and is estimated to be 3-4 years old. Paisley was picked up as a stray and was returned from a short trial adoption due to not being housebroken. (The shelter notes she is a submissive urinator, so they are unsure if she is truly not housebroken.)

- Tessa has personality, confidence, and a little bit of chaos wrapped in cuteness. She weighs 45-50 pounds and lives life on her terms. Tessa is estimated to be 4-5 years old. She was picked up as a stray and was returned from two trial adoptions after not getting along with tiny dogs in the home. She has been at the pound for 282 days.

- Life has not been easy for Dylan, who is thought to be 4-5 years old and weighs 60-65 pounds. Dylan is a humane case with a history of abuse. He will need a patient adopter. He has been at the pound for 241 days.
The current adoption fee is $18, which includes spay/neuter, shots, and dog tags. The Marion County Dog Pound is located at 2252 Richland Road, Marion, Ohio 43302. They are open Monday-Friday from 12-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 12-4 p.m. They are closed to the public on Sundays. If you are interested in fostering or adopting any of these dogs or others at the pound, you can schedule an appointment by calling 740-386-6150.
