MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Marion City Schools Superintendent Brian Murphy is welcoming students, families, and the community back for another exciting school year. “We’re excited to continue the momentum in Marion City Schools. We love this community and our schools, and over the past year we’ve made organizational, financial, and programmatic changes that are already making a positive impact. This year, we’re building on that progress,” Murphy said.

This year, the district is launching a new Social and Emotional Learning and character development curriculum, helping students build skills like empathy, responsibility, resilience, and respect. Extracurricular opportunities are also expanding at every level—elementary, middle, and high school—so every student can find a place to connect and thrive. “Whether it’s athletics, music, clubs, or other programs, we want every student to find a place where they can connect and thrive,” Murphy shared.

Murphy encourages parents and community members to stay engaged and communicate openly. “Talk to your kids, be there for them, and let us know if you’re concerned or if there’s something we should know. Beyond that, engage with teachers and staff, attend school events, and continue being part of our Marion City Proud community,” he said.

For staff, Murphy reminds them that every interaction with a student is a chance to encourage growth, build confidence, and strengthen connections. And for students, his advice is simple: “Take advantage of every opportunity. Believe in yourself, work hard, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Connect with your teachers, classmates, and community. And, have fun doing it!”
