MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Attaboys Comfort Cuisine a cornerstone for Southern-inspired comfort and soul food in downtown Marion, is celebrating eight years in business. Owner Chris Rennick recently spoke with News Director Randy Bigley about the restaurant’s journey, its unique menu, and its deep connection to the local community.
Rennick, who is from Philadelphia, said the restaurant was born from a desire to merge his heritage with Southern cuisine, noting that his family is from South Carolina. This blend resulted in a menu that includes staples like Philly cheesesteaks, gumbo, shrimp and grits, and chicken and waffles.
“We kind of seen that there was an empty gap for that kind of food,” Rennick said, explaining the decision to open in Marion. He renovated an abandoned building that was the former Nick’s Pizza, starting the business “totally from scratch.” Attaboys was also part of the first class at The Forge, a local business incubator.
Located at 289 West Center Street, Attaboys is directly across from the Palace Theater and the Harding Hotel, attracting theatergoers and local residents alike. Rennick noted that delivery services like DoorDash have become a significant part of the business, especially for older clientele and during inclement weather.
Attaboys is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. In addition to in-house dining and delivery, the restaurant offers catering for weddings, graduations, and office parties, providing both customized and off-menu options.
Customers can connect with Attaboys and inquire about catering via their social media pages on Facebook, Instagram, and Google, or by calling the restaurant directly.
