MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW) — The City of Marion has reached out to Auditor of State David Thompson regarding significant inaccuracies identified in the city’s financial system as of Sept. 30, 2025.

In a formal letter addressed to Thompson, Marion Mayor Bill Collins indicated that ongoing challenges in completing essential reconciliation processes have led to uncertainty in the city’s true bank-to-book balances.

The mayor noted that, as a direct consequence of these inaccuracies, multiple city funds are showing apparent deficit balances—figures that, if confirmed, could represent significant fiscal concerns for the municipality.

In light of the situation, the City of Marion is requesting a fiscal caution analysis and financial projection to address the discrepancies and ensure proper financial management moving forward.

Mayor Collins expressed hope for immediate attention to the request.

Marion County Now will continue to cover this developing story.
