MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—“Love Your City” is more than just a campaign slogan for Marion’s newly elected Mayor, Welcome “Bill” Collins. It’s an attitude and belief in the greater Marion community that he hopes to inspire in others.
“Marion is blessed to have many community leaders who love Marion. That common focus will help to move us forward for the good of all citizens,” states Collins. Known for his hands-on approach, Collins is determined to find solutions to challenges rather than assigning blame. “Together, we can solve any problem,” he asserts.
Collins is committed to fostering cooperation between the city administration, city and county elected officials, the Chamber of Commerce, and community agencies in Marion County. “If we are going to move Marion forward in a positive way, we need all partners to be actively involved,” Collins says. “I have worked my whole life to make Marion better and believe we all need to take ownership of loving our city.”
Known for his caring and determined nature, Collins entered law enforcement to advocate for those unable to stand up for themselves. His decision to run for mayor was driven by a desire to represent those who might feel voiceless. His initiatives include fostering greater cooperation between the City and Downtown Marion, addressing the housing shortage, and continuing to promote the “Love Your City” message.
Born and raised in Marion, Mayor Collins served as the Chief of the Marion Police Department and as Chief Deputy for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. His law enforcement career spanned 37 years. A proud lifelong resident of Marion, Ohio, Collins followed in the footsteps of his father and brother, who were also in law enforcement. In his leisure time, he enjoys visiting his Michigan lakeside cottage and partaking in fishing, snowmobiling, and boating with his family.
