MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)— A local man was killed, and a 12-year-old child was seriously injured Friday night after being struck by a CSX train at a crossing in the City of Marion.

Marion Central Dispatch received a report from CSX at approximately 8:41 p.m. stating that a train had struck two pedestrians at the Kenton Avenue crossing. Upon arrival, responding officers located two individuals near the tracks.

One victim, identified by authorities as 33-year-old Dalton McMillen of Marion, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 12-year-old child was located with serious injuries and had to be extricated from beneath the train. The child was initially treated at Marion General Hospital before being airlifted by medical helicopter to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus for specialized care.

The Kenton Avenue crossing was closed for several hours following the incident. The Marion Police Department stated that the investigation into the circumstances of the collision is ongoing, and no further details have been released at this time.
