MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—A popular regional barbecue destination is coming to Downtown Marion this spring, filling a prominent culinary vacancy on South Main Street.

101 Smokehouse will open at 138 S. Main St., the space most recently occupied by Ray Ray’s Hog Pit. The expansion marks a major comeback for owner Andy Ayers, whose original brick-and-mortar restaurant in Kenton was declared a total loss following a fire in July 2024.

The restaurant began as a food truck and grassroots catering endeavor before evolving into a successful physical location and an accompanying brand, 101 Creamery, which pairs smoked meats with hand-dipped and soft-serve ice cream.

Building owners indicated the partnership developed over several months after the Marion space became available. Ayers is described by associates as a “hospitality-minded operator” with a focus on high-quality guest experiences.

“I believe 101 Smokehouse is going to be a great addition to the growing mix of food, beverage, and entertainment options in our downtown,” said Luke Henry of Henry Development Group, in a statement announcing the lease.

101 Smokehouse is expected to begin operations in its new Marion home later this spring. Details regarding an exact opening date and specific menu offerings are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
