MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—The OhioHealth Marion General Cancer Center announced Monday it has received accreditation under the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer (CoC) Accreditation Program, a distinction highlighting the facility’s adherence to rigorous national standards.

To earn the voluntary accreditation, the center underwent a comprehensive evaluation to demonstrate compliance with CoC standards. These requirements ensure patients have access to a full range of diagnostic, treatment, and supportive services, either on-site or through community-based referrals.

“This accreditation reflects the dedication of our entire team to deliver coordinated, compassionate and evidence-based cancer care for the patients and families we serve,” said Lucinda Pfeifer, Program Manager for OhioHealth Marion Cancer Services.

The CoC is a consortium of professional organizations focused on improving survival rates and quality of life for cancer patients. Accredited programs must undergo a site visit every three years to maintain their status and prove a continued commitment to self-improvement.

With this achievement, the center also becomes an ACS Surgical Quality Partner. This designation indicates that the hospital’s surgical care meets the highest standards of quality and process verification.

“As an ACS Surgical Quality Partner, the OhioHealth Marion General Cancer Center has shown a commitment to providing the best possible patient care, evaluating that care in a rigorous fashion, and dedicating themselves to continuous self-improvement,” said Dr. Patricia L. Turner, ACS Executive Director and CEO.

Patients at the Marion facility can now look forward to a framework of care that spans from initial diagnosis through long-term survivorship, supported by a nationally recognized quality program.
