MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—The Marion Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) issued a public advisory Wednesday morning warning of an individual falsely portraying himself as an employee of the organization on social media.
Chamber officials identified the individual as Abdel Bourma. According to the advisory, Bourma has been using Facebook posts to present himself as a representative of the MACC. The Chamber clarified that Bourma is not associated with the organization in any capacity.
“He is not part of MACC, so please do not engage with him in any way,” the organization stated in a release to members and the public.
The Chamber also took the opportunity to remind the community of its official communication policies. According to the MACC, staff members utilize social media strictly for sharing information and will never use those platforms to conduct business or arrange professional meetings.
Residents who encounter posts from Bourma or other suspicious accounts claiming to represent the Chamber are encouraged to report the profiles as fraud through Facebook’s reporting tools.
Anyone with questions regarding this matter or seeking to verify the identity of a Chamber representative is urged to contact the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce office directly.
