JOHNSVILLE, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW) — On Wednesday, a fire outbreak at a local “puppy mill” resulted in the loss of approximately 70 dogs, according to the Johnsville Fire Department.
The fire engulfed a building on Chesterville-Shelby Road, near the junction of Mount Gilead-Fredericktown Road. Despite the efforts of the firefighters, who managed to bring the inferno under control within 40 minutes, the loss was significant.
Amidst the chaos, one puppy was successfully rescued by the firefighters. Prior to the arrival of the emergency responders, the owner managed to free around 17 other dogs from the burning structure.
Investigations by the Johnsville Fire Department suggest that the fire originated from a wood-burning stove situated in the center of the building.
The Johnsville Fire Department continues to investigate the incident and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
