James Erl Caldwell, age 84, of Marion, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Marion General Hospital.
Jim was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on April 1, 1940, to the late Chester Earle and Grace Elizabeth (McClure) Caldwell.
While attending Zanesville High School, Jim met a young woman, Judith Pettit. The two reconnected several times over the years and were married on December 26, 1961. Shortly after their wedding, James entered the U.S. Air Force during The Vietnam Conflict. Jim and Judith enjoyed fifty-four years of marriage and lovingly raised a daughter, Jennifer. Judith preceded Jim in death on April 8, 2016.
Jim worked for Marion Power Shovel and AEP for many years as a draftsman. After retirement, he continued to share his skills as a substitute teacher at Tri-Rivers.
Always loving music, Jim sang in the Marionaires, The Marion Senior Citizen’s Chorus, and the Marion Civic Chorus. In addition to singing, James enjoyed playing the flute with the Marion Concert Band. He could often be found volunteering with The American Legion Post 162, VFW Post 7201, and The Marion County United Veterans Council. He also enjoyed bowling and golfing with friends and never missed an opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren. Jim also loved to eat out and could be found most days at Perkins or Carlyle’s
Jim will be missed by his daughter, Jennifer (Jeff) Hart of Marion; and grandchildren, Colin (Peyton Miller) Hart and Tierza Hart.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 pm Friday, April 26, 2024, at Marion Cemetery with Pastor Tanyce Addison officiating and Military Honors provided by The Marion County United Veterans Council.
