Frederick “Fred” Joseph Gurr, age 93 of Marion, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Kingston Residence of Marion.

Fred was born on July 29, 1930 to the late William and Lillian (Koepler) Gurr in Chicago, Illinois. On June 18, 1955, he married the late Mary Louise Western in Watervliet, Michigan.

Fred served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired as Manager of Manufacturing at Whirlpool

Corporation after working 35 years. He belonged to the Elks Lodge, V.F.W. and American Legion in Marion, Ohio. He will be missed by family and friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Louise Gurr; his brother, William Gurr, and his son, Fred Gurr.

Those who will cherish his memories include his daughter, Jill Schlecht of Marion, Ohio; his son, Bill (Tricia) Gurr of Aiken, South Carolina; his sister, Anne Cook of Lake Isabella, Michigan: his five grandchildren: Alex and Spencer, Jacqueline, Jon, Jeremy; and his two great grandchildren.

Fred Gurr had several hobbies (fishing in Pine Island Florida, golfing with friends, cheering on OSU sports, dancing with his bride Mary, walking the beach at Lake Michigan, tinkering with cars or electrical) and enjoyed cocktail hour with neighbors/friends. Whatever he did was with enthusiasm and joy that brought laughter to many.

Per Fred’s wishes, no formal funeral services will be held but a celebration of life will be conducted with family members at a future date.

The family would also like to thank the Kingston Residence staff and Heartland Hospice for making our Dad’s last few months comfortable.
