MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—A 66-year-old Marion man faces multiple felony charges following a July 4 crash that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy.
Timothy Best was indicted Wednesday on two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, two counts of operating a vehicle under the influence, one count of vehicular homicide and one count of aggravated vehicular assault.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred shortly before 10:45 p.m. on Likens Chapel Road near Fairground Road in Marion Township. Investigators said a Ford Ranger struck the rear of a parked Mercedes-Benz M-Class. Avante Weldon, 16, was standing behind the Mercedes-Benz at the time and was struck by the Ford.
Weldon died from his injuries. Three other people, including two 14-year-olds who were inside the parked vehicle, were injured. Best also suffered minor injuries in the crash.
An arraignment date on the new charges has not yet been scheduled.
