MOUNT GILEAD, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—A late-night crash on U.S. Route 42 claimed the life of a Mount Gilead man Tuesday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers from the Mount Gilead Post responded to the crash at approximately 10:04 p.m. on July 29 near County Road 110 in Congress Township.
Investigators said Darell Boestler, 70, of Mount Gilead, was traveling north on a 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he traveled off the right side of the roadway. The motorcycle was laid down and came to rest partially off the west side of U.S. 42.
Boestler was separated from the motorcycle and came to rest in the roadway, where he was subsequently struck by a southbound 2019 Lexus NX300 driven by Roxann Maynard, 54, of Mansfield.
Emergency personnel pronounced Boestler dead at the scene.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Boestler was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Investigators have not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs were factors. Maynard was wearing a seat belt and was not impaired, troopers said.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, Morrow County EMS, and the Morrow County Coroner’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation.
