MARION COUNTY, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—A 53-year-old man died Tuesday evening after being struck by an Amazon delivery van following an apparent road rage confrontation on Centerville Newmans Road in Prospect, Ohio, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
A preliminary investigation, which includes video reviewed from the Amazon van’s cameras, indicates that a Columbus woman driving the van had completed a package delivery. A man who lived at the residence where the delivery occurred approached the parked van in a car with his wife and teenage son as passengers. A brief altercation followed, which included yelling and obscene gestures.
The delivery driver backed out of the driveway and drove west on Centerville Newmans Road, a narrow, two-lane road with drainage ditches on either side. The man followed the van in his car, eventually moving left of the double yellow center line, cutting off and striking the van, and stopping his car ahead of the van in the right lane.
According to investigators, the man got out of his car and quickly walked toward the van. The Amazon driver then backed up and drove forward, striking the man with the van.
The 53-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld in accordance with Ohio law. The delivery driver remained on scene and was interviewed by investigators. No one else sustained injuries requiring medical treatment at the scene.
No charges have been filed as of yet, and the investigation remains active. The completed case will be reviewed by prosecutors.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is assisting with a crash reconstruction, along with assistance from the Battle Run Fire Department and the Marion County Coroner’s Office.
