Marcia Louise Gerken Geyer, 71, was peacefully taken into the loving arms of Jesus at 3:09 AM on Monday August 5, 2024, with her loving husband Allan by her side. She was born March 3, 1953, to Frederick and Joyce (Wiewandt) Gerken in Fremont, Ohio.
Marcia always loved to sing and joined the children’s choir at the age of 4 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fremont. She attended Lutz Elementary School and graduated from Fremont Ross High School, Class of 1971. She was in A Capella choir, Quest program, many sports, Luther League and a special singing quartet. Marcia graduated from Ohio Northern University, Class of 1975, where she was in pre-med, sang with the Chorus and Ohio Northern University Singers, played baseball, volleyball and basketball, Women’s Recreation Association. She was a charter member of Kappa Phi, a women’s Christian service organization at Ohio Northern and was also their Pledge Trainer.
Allan and Marcia were united in marriage at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fremont, Ohio on September 12, 1976. Marcia was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Marion, Ohio where she was member of the Emanuel Choir and was a handbell player. She was on the medical support team, Strategic Planning Committee, Organ Committee, Music and Worship Committee, special trio at Emanuel and Marion Civic Chorus. Marcia was in the local chapter of the Bible Study Fellowship (international women’s organization) for 7 years. She had worked in physical therapy in St. Francis Rehabilitation Hospital, in local private practice and Home Health Physical Therapy. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Thirston Zwir Post 121 in Fremont for many years.
Allan and Marcia enjoyed traveling, gardening, camping, fishing and being outdoors. She was an avid photographer and had won blue ribbons at the Marion County Fair and various other contests. Marcia had traveled coast to coast in Canada and Mexico and 49 of our 50 states with Hawaii the only state not visited. She loved the snow! Any day was a good day for a ride, especially if we had a blizzard or lots of snow!
Marcia was preceded in the passing by Mother, Joyce E. Wiewandt Gerken Burkett and Benjamin Burkett, Father, Frederick H. Gerken and Margaret Gerken. Mother-in-law Nancy (Vernon Chute) and Father-in-law Lowell Geyer, Grandparents John and Bess (Witt) Wiewandt and Estella (Foss) and Frederick H. Gerken, Sr, Nephew Bob Linder.
Marcia is survived by her loving husband, Allan, brother John (Betty) Scheer, sisters Christina (Jerry) Bogner and Linda (Bob) Miller, God Daughters – nieces Lauren (Everett and their son Jaxon) James and Cori Ross, Sister and brother -in-law Melanie and Larry Ross. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and many wonderful and loved friends and two special kitties Precious and Buttercup.

Calling hours 2–4 and 6-8 PM are on Monday August 12 at Emanuel Lutheran Church 241 South Prospect Street, Marion, Ohio. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday August 13 at the church officiated by Rev. Michael L. Poole Jr. with visitation starting at 10:00 AM. The service will be live streamed through Emanuel Lutheran Church website (https://emanuellutheran.net, go to Worship and then to Live Stream). There will be a lunch after the service to share memories of Marcia. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday August 14 at Oakwood Cemetery, 1225 Oakwood Street, Fremont, Ohio (main gate at older section). Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church.
