MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Effective immediately, the Marion Area Humane Society has initiated a quarantine for all of their dogs in response to a spreading illness among the canine residents. The shelter management asks for patience from the community as they navigate this situation.
A respiratory panel has been conducted on a symptomatic dog, and the shelter will provide updates as soon as the results are available. Until then, the shelter has placed a hold on dog adoptions and intakes to ensure the safety and health of all their residents.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” a shelter representative stated on their Facebook page. “Our primary commitment is to the health and safety of our dogs, and we are taking all necessary precautions to protect them.”
The shelter is requesting donations of Lysol wipes and spray, antibacterial cleaners, bleach, and towels to help maintain a clean and safe environment during the quarantine.
Temporary Changes Due to Quarantine:
- No volunteers or public interaction with dogs
- No meet-and-greets for potential adopters
- No new surrenders accepted
- No dog adoptions
For any questions or concerns, the shelter encourages the public to reach out. The shelter promises to maintain transparency throughout this outbreak.
“We are working diligently to overcome this situation and provide the best possible care for our pets. Thank you for your continued support,” the shelter representative added.
