COLUMBUS, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Ohio’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is calling for volunteers to serve as advocates for residents in nursing and assisted living homes. Volunteers, known as Associates, play a crucial role in the program’s success by visiting facilities near their homes and ensuring residents’ rights and quality of care are upheld.
Associates will undergo 16 hours of classroom training, supplemented with worksheets and hands-on training at their assigned facilities alongside a staff ombudsman. Certified volunteers will be responsible for providing residents with information about the program and their rights, assisting with complaint follow-ups under staff guidance, and being a voice for those unable to speak for themselves.
The program aims to enhance the quality of life for residents by addressing their concerns and advocating for their needs. Those interested in making a difference are encouraged to apply by contacting Melissa Wilson at 567-247-6440 or mwilson@aaa5ohio.org.
