MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Originally built in 1967 as Green Acres Golf Course, the course has been part of the community for decades. Five years ago, new local ownership took over and began making improvements while still keeping the laid-back atmosphere many golfers have come to appreciate.
According to Superintendent Chris Rogers, much of the focus has been on improving the greens and fairways through irrigation upgrades and a stronger focus on turf health.
“We often hear from golfers that have been coming here for years say they’ve never seen the course look this good,” Rogers said. “That’s all my crew and I need to hear.”

One of the things that makes 3 Sticks stand out is its welcoming atmosphere for golfers of all ages and experience levels. The Par 60 course offers a shorter round than a traditional course, making it appealing for families, beginners and golfers with busy schedules.
“With everyone’s busy lifestyles, most golfers can get through a round in about three hours,” Rogers said.
Even though the course is shorter, experienced golfers still find it both fun and challenging.
The course continues to host outings, scrambles and leagues throughout the season while also looking for new ways to bring more people into the game. This year, 3 Sticks will host one of the Heart of Ohio Junior Golf tournaments on June 1.
