COLUMBUS, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—The Alzheimer’s Association Central Ohio Chapter is offering several free programs in January to support caregivers of individuals living with dementia.
One of the key events is The Empowered Caregiver: Exploring Care and Support Services, scheduled for Tuesday, January 28, at 1:00 pm at the Marion County Council on Aging, located at 125 Executive Drive #102, Marion, OH 43302. To register, interested participants can call 800-272-3900.
This program aims to address the unique challenges and rewards of caring for someone with dementia. Topics will include planning for changes in care needs, exploring various types of respite, long-term and residential care, transitioning between care settings, and end-of-life care.
“Our education programs offer a wide variety of tools and resources that families need as they navigate their journey with Alzheimer’s or other dementia,” said Pam Myers, senior director of programs for the Alzheimer’s Association Central Ohio and Northwest Ohio Chapters. “Feeling a sense of community and camaraderie can make people realize that they’re not alone in this.”
Nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s dementia, including 236,200 in Ohio. Additionally, 414,000 Ohio caregivers provide 624 million hours of unpaid care annually, valued at more than $11.4 billion.
