TOLEDO, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—The Alzheimer’s Association has introduced “My ALZ Journey,” a new free mobile application designed to assist individuals in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias, along with their care partners, in navigating their diagnosis.

The app, available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, provides newly diagnosed individuals and their care partners with a resource to connect with educational materials, planning tools, interactive activities, and local community support.

Recognizing that a dementia diagnosis can feel overwhelming, “My ALZ Journey” aims to offer step-by-step support, tailored tools, and trusted information to facilitate early-stage planning. It helps users stay informed, engaged, and connected to vital local resources.

Upon downloading and submitting basic information, the app creates a personalized plan and directly links users to their local Alzheimer’s Association chapter. This connection enables access to support groups, events, and programs specific to their area.

“My ALZ Journey” is designed to foster connection, combat stigma, and empower individuals and their care partners to make confident decisions. The app allows users to explore new information, skip topics, or revisit previously covered content. It offers resources and activities applicable to all types of dementia, not exclusively Alzheimer’s.

Key features of the app include:

  • Personalized resources: Content is tailored based on the user’s role (living with the disease or care partner), age at diagnosis, and location.
  • Step-by-step help: Guidance is provided for adjusting to a diagnosis, maintaining independence, and future planning.
  • Local support: Direct connections to local Alzheimer’s Association chapters and nearby programs are available.
  • Tools and activities: The app includes planning tools, helpful checklists, and creative ways to stay engaged.
  • Information based on real experiences: The content was developed with input from individuals living with dementia and their care partners to ensure it reflects real-life situations.

Getting started with “My ALZ Journey” involves downloading the app, customizing the experience by answering a few questions, and then exploring information, resources, tools, and support at any time.

For assistance with downloading the app, users can fill out the contact form on the Alzheimer’s Association website. For help with using the app or to report issues, the 24/7 Helpline is available at 800-272-3900. Additional information can be found at alz.org/help-support/resources/my-alz-journey.
