MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—The Boden family, known for their dedication to community and hard work, is continuing their legacy with a new scholarship fund at Marion Technical College. Jon and Patty (Benner) Boden, who grew up next to each other in Wharton, Wyandot County, married in 1975 and pursued Jon’s dream of building high-performance engines. Patty worked at a factory while Jon transformed a condemned home into a garage.

Their daughter, Amy (Boden) Fredritz, recalls her father’s encouragement: “Dad would say, ‘You’re a Boden – you can do anything.’” Despite tough early years, the Bodens always supported their neighbors, often helping kids in need and taking in those without supportive homes.

Boden’s Garage became known for producing national championship engines, and the family traveled the country showcasing Jon’s 1955 Studebaker, “Super Stud.” Jon and Patty also competed in the Ohio State Tractor Pulling Association, with Jon winning the National Champion title in the 4×4 truck class for seven consecutive years.

After Jon was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and passed away in 2004, the Boden family remained committed to their community. They have now established the Boden Family Scholarship Fund for Wyandot County students attending Marion Technical College, with a preference for those majoring in engineering or small business with an automotive focus.

Amy Fredritz, who has over 10 years of experience in the financial industry, serves as the treasurer of the Marion Tech Foundation Board of Directors. She emphasizes the importance of giving back to the community and honoring her father’s memory through the scholarship fund.

Mike Stuckey, director of the Marion Tech Foundation, and Tim Anderson, a member of the Marion Tech Board of Trustees, praised the Boden family’s contributions and highlighted the college’s new in-demand programs. Donations to support the scholarship fund can be made at mtc.edu.
