MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Local media, in partnership with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, will host Groundhog Day with Buckeye Chuck, Ohio’s official weather prognosticating groundhog, for his 46th year.

Buckeye Chuck will greet his fans at a live in-person celebration at the Marion County Fairgrounds Colosseum on Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 7 to 8 a.m. The event will also be broadcast live and streamed on Buckeye Chuck’s Facebook Fan Page. Pillar Credit Union is sponsoring the event.

According to legend, if Buckeye Chuck sees his shadow at sunrise, Ohioans will face six more weeks of winter.

In addition to the festivities, Buckeye Chuck is asking fans to support the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry. Attendees can bring cash donations or non-perishable food items to the Groundhog Day celebration. The first 100 visitors to donate will receive an “iHeart Buckeye Chuck” T-shirt, sponsored by Hessler’s Screen Printing and More. Refreshments from A & M’s Donut Wagon from Crestline will also be available on-site.
