MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—The City of Marion has issued an immediate announcement regarding a forthcoming adjustment to the Storm Sewer Utility rate, set to take effect with the April 2026 utility bills.
The rate for Equivalent Residential Units (ERU) will rise from $7.20 to $13.20 per month.
City officials noted that the Storm Sewer Utility rate has remained unchanged for the past nine years, despite rising operational expenses and inflation affecting storm sewer management.
According to Ordinance 2014-78, the Administration is required to conduct annual calculations to ensure sufficient revenue is collected to meet the Storm Water Utility’s debt service obligations.
This necessary adjustment is aimed at maintaining compliance with City Code and ensuring the financial stability of the Storm Water Utility.
Officials indicated that had rates been adjusted consistently over the years, the current ERU rate would exceed $19.00.
The adjustment is viewed as a corrective measure intended to realign Marion’s storm sewer rates while supporting the long-term sustainability of the utility. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about this change and its implications for their upcoming utility bills.
