WILLARD, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—A four-car train derailment in Willard on Sunday morning resulted in two 1,000-gallon propane tanks being knocked off their bases, according to reports.

The incident, which occurred around 11:30 a.m., involved four empty cars that are typically used as auto carriers. When the cars derailed, they collided with the propane tanks, causing them to be displaced from their bases.

Despite initial leaks from the tanks, fire officials were able to shut them down promptly. As a result, no evacuations have been ordered for nearby households.

“There is a hazard with the propane tanks, but there is no immediate danger to the public,” Chief Reiderman said.

As of 4:30 p.m., Willard police and fire departments remain on the scene, working to remove the derailed train cars. The cause of the derailment is still under investigation.
