Devenis Hall, age 79, of Marion, died peacefully before sunset on August 1, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. The oldest of eleven children, he was born to Daniel and Lizzie Mae (Gibson) Hall on March 28, 1945, on the Gibson Branch of Caney Creek, in Raven, Knott Co., Kentucky. Shortly after graduating from Wayland High School, Devenis married Linda Sue Branham on September 26, 1964. After settling in Marion, Ohio, he worked as a machine operator at Tecumseh and a press operator at Nucor Steel until his retirement in 2006.
Devenis was a devoted founding member of White Oaks Road Freewill Baptist Church, and was ordained as a Deacon on August 18, 1990. A faithful servant of the Lord, Devenis saw the Church as a second home, and fellow members were like family. Devenis never knew a stranger, and he witnessed to many through the example of his kind Christian spirit.
A loving husband, father, and papaw, Devenis found one of the greatest joys of his life in spending time with his grandchildren, Daniel and Katie. He loved taking them on walks to the garden, playing with them, and sharing as many snuggles as possible. Papaw told them countless tales about growing up in Kentucky, and about raising their dad, Randy, when he was a child. Devenis also enjoyed traveling, working on cars, visiting family, and maintaining his large collection of tools and treasures.
In addition to his parents, Devenis was preceded in death by his brother, Adrian Hall, and his sister, Patricia (Donald) Ambergy. Along with his grandchildren, he is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Linda (Branham) Hall, of Marion; his son and daughter-in-law, Randal and Jennifer (Blair) Hall, of Pataskala; his siblings, Vernis (Theresa) Hall, of Marion; Arlene (Barry) Watts, of Pine Top, Kentucky; Burnis (Patricia) Hall, Dwayne (Jennifer) Hall, Gordan (Lynni) Hall, and Eddie Hall, all of Raven, Kentucky; and Haden (Crystal) Hall and Sherline Johnson, both of Nancy, Kentucky; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, August 5, 2024, from 11 am to 1 pm, at White Oaks Road Freewill Baptist Church, 1859 White Oaks Rd., Marion, Ohio. The service will follow at 1 pm, with Retired Pastor Danny Dickerson officiating. Interment will follow at Marion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Devenis to White Oaks Road Freewill Baptist Church. The Boyd Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Hall family.
