MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—At 8:43AM. on September 12, 2024, officers from the Marion Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance at 578 Olney Ave. The female victim was injured after being struck with a bottle and was transported to Marion General Hospital for treatment. She was later released.
The male suspect, Randy Johnson, 19, of Marion, did not respond to multiple attempts by officers to get him to exit the residence. Johnson also had outstanding warrants from an unrelated case in which he had shot himself.
The Marion Combined Special Response Team was activated as efforts to contact Johnson continued. At 1:15PM., after numerous warnings, chemical agents were introduced into the home. At 1:55PM, Johnson was found hiding in the attic and was arrested.
Johnson was transported to Marion General Hospital for medical clearance before being taken to the Multi-County Correctional Center on charges of felonious assault and his existing warrants.
“This violent incident caused an entire neighborhood to be shut down; a park was unable to be used; traffic was re-routed and most importantly, a woman was injured because of the actions of this suspect. The members of the Marion Police Department took every precaution to end this situation peacefully and are grateful no one else was hurt,” said Marion Police Chief Jay McDonald.
