MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Drug Free Marion celebrated local youth and the adults who support them at its annual Recognition Night on Wednesday, May 14.
The event highlighted the achievements of students involved in Teen Institute and Junior Teen Institute programs across area middle and high schools. Youth coalition members were also recognized for their commitment to promoting healthy, drug-free lifestyles in Marion County.
A key part of the evening was the acknowledgment of “trusted adults”—individuals identified by Teen Institute members as significant sources of support within their schools. These adults received awards for their important roles in the lives of young people. A trusted adult is defined as someone a young person can depend on for guidance, safety, and honest support.
Those recognized as trusted adults were Ben McKinnis and Kendell Edgerton from Pleasant, Eric Robinson and Ben Nauman from Elgin, and Hayden Hamilton from Marion Harding.
Drug Free Marion emphasized the critical role trusted adults play in shaping the emotional and social well-being of youth, providing a safe space for sharing and helping young people make healthier choices.
The coalition also paid tribute to Barbie White from Marion Public Health for her dedication to prevention and ongoing contributions to the DFM coalition. Business leader Spencer Householder from Peacock Water was recognized for his consistent support and efforts to connect the coalition with other parts of the community.
Annette Holler, coalition coordinator, welcomed community members to get involved. Interested individuals can email her at Annette.h@mcpreventionprograms.com for more information.
