MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Kevin McClatchy, professional actor and Ohio State Artist Laureate, will present a screening of the film “Scrap Heap” on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Ohio State University at Marion‘s Morrill Hall Auditorium, Room 100. The event is free and open to the public, with a special invitation extended to veterans, current military members, and their families.

“Scrap Heap” examines the costs of war through the eyes of a forgotten soldier, portrayed by McClatchy, who is transitioning from military to civilian life. The film offers a turbulent, darkly humorous exploration of the realities faced by service members.

Following the screening, a post-show conversation will be led by veterans from the Marion community, facilitated by Ohio State Marion Military Community Advocate Eric Bailey. These discussions aim to share experiences, dismantle myths, and foster empathy and understanding.

Attendees should be aware that the film addresses combat-related trauma and suicide and includes flashing lights and sound effects such as gunfire. Refreshments will be provided.

McClatchy, an Associate Professor and Head of Acting and Directing in the Department of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts at Ohio State, also directs the university’s Shakespeare and Autism Project and the Shakespeare and Veterans Initiative. Named Ohio State Artist Laureate for 2024-25, McClatchy has a distinguished career in theatre, film, and television.
