MORROW COUNTY, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—The Mt. Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred on State Route 95, near Township Road 14, Morrow County, on June 26, 2024, at approximately 11:59 p.m.

Joe Lee Bolton, 66, of Fredericktown, Ohio, was driving a 2002 Ford F-150 eastbound on State Route 95. Blaze Maurer, 19, of Mount Gilead, was driving a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 westbound on the same route.

According to the preliminary investigation, Bolton traveled left of center and struck Maurer head-on.  Maurer was transported to Ohio Health Mansfield with serious injuries. Bolton was transported to Morrow County Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors in this crash. It was reported that seatbelts were not in use by either driver at the time of the incident.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Mount Gilead EMS and Fire, the Morrow County Sheriff Department, Morrow County ODOT, and the Morrow County Prosecutor.
