MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—In a new development today in Marion, former Bucyrus attorney Adam Stone was indicted on a fifth-degree felony charge of forgery. This indictment follows a recent sentencing where Stone received 54 months in prison for telecommunications fraud and impersonating an officer, a sentence handed down by the Delaware County Common Pleas Court.
The fraud involved Stone deceiving grieving parents, Dan and Mindy Straker, in a disturbing case that has drawn statewide attention.
The newly filed charges relate to an incident in Marion County, where Stone was ordered to appear in court on October 31, 2022. He was to explain the need for a continuance regarding a hearing that had originally been scheduled for September 15, 2022.
Stone had submitted a letter to the court claiming he needed to attend an “Emergency Child Welfare Hearing” from the Cuyahoga County Department of Health and Human Services on that date.
However, upon review, the court became suspicious of the letter’s authenticity. Inquiries were made to the claimed author at the Cuyahoga County Department, who denied any affiliation with the correspondence.
At the hearing, Stone insisted that he did attend the meeting; however, he could not clarify why the caseworker did not corroborate his story.
For over two years, Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan had refrained from indicting Stone. Presently, Stone is being held at the Corrections Reception Center, where he awaits prison assignment.
This latest charge, could add up to a year to his existing prison sentence if he is convicted.
