BUCYRUS, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—In a turn of events, 30-year-old David Holdcraft, a former resident of Bucyrus, appeared in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday to answer to disturbing allegations of child rape.

Holdcraft now stands accused of three counts of raping a child under the age of ten, with each charge carrying the weight of a first-degree felony. If found guilty, Holdcraft could face a lifetime behind bars with no chance of parole.

The charges against Holdcraft involve two counts of rape allegedly committed against the same victim, while the third victim remains identified as a John Doe.

These incidents of child abuse are reported to have taken place between October 2020 and February 2022.

In addition to the rape charges, Holdcraft is also accused of one count of gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony that carries a possible five-year prison sentence upon conviction.

It is worth noting that Holdcraft is currently serving a 24-year prison term at Elkton Federal Prison in Lisbon, Ohio, stemming from his guilty plea in May 2022 to charges related to child pornography.

With court-appointed attorney Howard Elliot appearing with him in court, Holdcraft pleaded not guilty to all counts in the local rape case.

During the court proceedings, Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold upheld Holdcraft’s one-million-dollar bond and ordered that, given his existing incarceration, he remain in custody at Crawford County Jail until the conclusion of the case.

Furthermore, Judge Leuthold issued a strict directive preventing any unauthorized removal of Holdcraft from the jail without written approval from the court.
