BUCYRUS, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Hord Family Farms, a fifth-generation pork producer based in Bucyrus, Ohio, announced on Nov. 17 the completion of its acquisition of the assets of New Horizon Farms, a farrow-to-finish swine operation in Pipestone, Minn. The Minnesota farm will now operate under the name Hord Farms West, maintaining the current pork operations of New Horizon.

New Horizon Farms, founded in 1993, employs over 150 team members across five sow farms, six nurseries, and 60 finishing farms located in southwest Minnesota, eastern South Dakota, and northwest Iowa. Hord Farms will now oversee all swine operations, including 16,000 sows in production and more than 400,000 pigs marketed annually. The existing Minnesota leadership team will continue to manage day-to-day operations, according to a release.

Pat Hord, CEO of Hord Family Farms, expressed his company’s commitment to producing quality protein and supporting their team. “As a multi-generational, family-owned company, producing quality protein is our responsibility, and we are guided by our values of providing excellent care to our animals and supporting our team,” said Hord. He added that the acquisition reflects their strategic growth and dedication to producing quality food products for consumers.

Hord Farms, which produces more than 800,000 pigs per year and employs over 200 team members, also raises grain for feed and operates a feeder-to-market beef cattle farm.

Dan Sprague, president and CEO of New Horizon Farms, expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Hord Family Farms team. “The Hords are experienced producers with a strong reputation for integrity, excellent animal welfare, responsible operations, and a deep commitment to caring for their employees. This is good for our team, our communities, and our business. We look forward to a stable and successful future as we create a richer footprint in pork production,” said Sprague.
