Joan Marie Couts, 93, of Marion, passed away peacefully at the Embassy of Marion on October 13, 2024. On September 30, 1931, her late father, Virgil Ault, and late mother, Orpha, welcomed her into the world. She went on to marry her husband, Theodore Couts, in 1956. Sadly, he would leave this world in June of 1993.
Joan was a woman of conviction and a lifelong member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She started work after graduating from Harding High School. Her strong shorthand and typing skills earned her a position as secretary for the V.P. of the Marion Power Shovel. Later, after raising 2 sons, she enjoyed a job as a retail clerk at SuperX/CVS for 25 plus years. When she wasn’t working, she could be found in the yard or cooking up her famous Orange Salad (she would not go to a family function without it). Joan was always friendly and enjoyed being with her family, and six girlfriends she remained close to since grade school.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son; Brent Couts, and brothers; Robert and Damon Ault.
She is survived by her son; Michael Couts, brother; Ronald Ault, grandchildren; Angela (Darren) Large and Jennifer (Scott) Baker, 9 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Joan’s family would like to invite all that knew her to come join them for visitation at the Boyd Funeral Home on October 21, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The funeral service will be held on the same day at the Boyd Funeral Home at 12 p.m. There will be a procession to the Marion Cemetery, where an interment service will take place. A meal and fellowship will follow. Donations on behalf of Joan can be made to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, here in Marion, OH. The Boyd Funeral Home is proud to be serving the Couts family in their time of need.
