Josef M. Schmuker, age 68 of Marion, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024 at Marion General Hospital. On November 18, 1955, he was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Edward and Kazuko (Kobiashi) Schmuker, and on September 19, 1981, he married the love of his life, Becky (Walter).

Joe worked for CSX Transportation for 45 years, most recently in the position of foreman, and he was a lifelong railroader who loved his job. He enjoyed working out and physical health in general, and he also enjoyed music, especially classic rock. He was a big Bruce Springsteen fan.

When his children were younger, he loved being involved in their activities, and he enjoyed coaching his son’s sports teams. He was an avid fan of Michigan’s many sports teams as well.

Most recently, he enjoyed the 4 years of his retirement that he was able to spend at his retirement bungalow, but above all else, he loved being a grandpa. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife Becky Schmuker; his daughter Jorden (Kory) Bradshaw; his son Joel Schmuker; his mother Kazuko Schmuker; his brothers Robert and John Schmuker; his sister Kathy Barnhart; his granddaughter Kamryn Bradshaw and the grandbaby on the way; his mother-in-law Mary Walter; and his sister-in-law Laura (George) Williams, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his father Edward Schmuker; his father-in-law David Walter; and his brother-in-law John Barnhart.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024 from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Boyd Funeral Home. Services will follow at 4 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Keith Irey officiating.
