MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Marion County Prosecuting Attorney Ray Grogan achieved a significant conviction in a disturbing sexual assault case. The case involved Cecil C. Moore  of Marion and resulted in a guilty verdict on all 15 felony counts, including rape, sexual battery, and gross sexual imposition.

The charges stemmed from allegations that Moore had repeatedly molested and raped a young girl between the ages of 13 and 15.

Prosecutor Grogan commended the bravery of the victim and emphasized the importance of seeking justice for victims. Assistant Prosecutors Mark R. Weaver and John Scott Jr., along with the Marion Police Department, played crucial roles in the successful outcome of the case.

Grogan expressed gratitude to the jury for their diligent service and requested that Moore be detained until a sentencing date is determined. Moore could face a sentence of over 55 years in prison and will be required to register as a sex offender for life.

The case had previously resulted in a mistrial, but Grogan’s determination remained unwavering. He highlighted the message sent by the unanimous verdict in the retrial, emphasizing the commitment to justice and the trust placed in the judicial process.

Grogan also emphasized the broader mission of his office to protect the innocent and vulnerable, acknowledging that while no verdict can fully heal the wounds of the past, the conviction underscores their commitment to the safety and well-being of every resident in Marion County.

Moore’s sentencing has not yet been scheduled, but Grogan is already preparing arguments for a lengthy prison sentence.
