MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Many families facing serious medical diagnoses often feel a sense of “unnecessary worry” due to confusion over the differences between palliative and hospice care. To address these misconceptions, Kingston Residence of Marion will host an educational presentation on Thursday, Jan. 15, at 1:30 p.m.

The event, held at 464 James Way, features Marla Gerrek, a palliative and hospice care nurse practitioner with Amedisys. Gerrek aims to provide local residents with the facts needed to make informed healthcare decisions.

“Learning the facts can help individuals and families make informed, confident care decisions when they need support most,” organizers said.

A common myth is that palliative care signifies a patient is dying. In reality, palliative care manages pain and symptoms at any stage of a serious illness and can be provided alongside regular medical treatments.

In contrast, hospice care focuses on comfort and dignity for those nearing the end of life. While many believe hospice is only for a patient’s final days, it can often span several months, providing support for both the individual and their family.

The session is free to the public. Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP by calling Kingston Residence of Marion at (740) 389-2311.
