MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)— A powerful winter storm is currently moving through north central and northwest Ohio, bringing heavy snowfall and dangerously cold temperatures that are expected to paralyze the Monday morning commute.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. Monday as meteorologists forecast total snow accumulations between 10 and 13 inches.

Current Conditions and Timing

Snow intensity is increasing this morning and is expected to peak this afternoon and evening. While the snow will begin to taper off late tonight, the National Weather Service warns that sub-zero wind chills will persist through Monday morning.

  • Today: Heavy snow is likely throughout the day with a high near 19 degrees. Northeast winds of 9 to 11 mph will accompany a 100% chance of precipitation. Daytime accumulations could reach between 6 and 10 inches.
  • Tonight: Snow remains likely, primarily before 1 a.m. Lows will drop to around 6 degrees, with wind chill values plummeting as low as minus 5. North winds around 13 mph could gust as high as 23 mph.
  • Monday: Conditions will remain frigid with a high near 12 degrees and a 20% chance of lingering snow before 1 p.m. Wind chills are expected to dip to minus 9.

Travel and Safety Warnings

The Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission are strongly encouraging motorists to delay unnecessary travel. For those who must be on the roads, officials report that travel will be “very difficult” due to slippery conditions and poor visibility.
