CLEVELAND, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for portions of north central and northwest Ohio, effective from 1 p.m. Monday through noon Tuesday.

Meteorologists warn that an incoming arctic front will bring dangerously low wind chills, with values expected to dip between 15 and 20 degrees below zero. The affected region includes Lucas, Wood, Hancock, and Richland counties, as well as surrounding areas.

Authorities caution that these extreme conditions can lead to hypothermia in a short amount of time if proper safety measures are not taken. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors and to dress in multiple layers if they must travel.

“The cold wind chills could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken,” the National Weather Service stated in its urgent weather message.

Safety officials recommend that anyone going outside wear appropriate winter gear, including a hat and gloves, to minimize skin exposure. Local law enforcement has also reminded drivers to keep emergency kits in their vehicles, as sub-zero wind chills can complicate roadside assistance during the overnight hours.

The advisory is set to expire midday Tuesday as temperatures are expected to stabilize, though officials continue to monitor a “clipper train” of systems that may bring additional cold air later in the week.
