MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Marion City Auditor Miranda Megginnes has announced her resignation from the position of City Auditor, effective immediately, citing a challenging political environment and the need to prioritize her mental health.

Meginness assumed the office just over four years ago on November 29, 2021, stepping into what she described as a “broken” office plagued by a lack of common goals and leadership.
Upon taking office, she found herself with a drastically understaffed team, including no payroll clerk and an auditor’s office reduced to just two employees.

Over the past four years, Meginness dedicated herself to overhauling the office’s operations.

She not only retained key team members but also built a new team around them, spending countless hours learning the intricacies of a perceived broken system. Through tireless effort, often working nights, weekends, and holidays, she forged ahead with little support from fellow elected officials.

“My only goal has been to contribute to the greater good for the City of Marion.” Meginness stated in her resignation letter. She emphasized that she never sought the role for prestige or power, but rather to serve the public.

Despite the significant strides she made in improving processes and fostering cooperation with both administration and City Council, Meginness expressed that she could no longer withstand the pressures of local politics, which she felt were detrimental to her well-being.

“Tonight, I can rest my head knowing that the work I’ve done was sound, and my morals have not been compromised,” she added.

Meginness’ resignation marks the end of her career as Auditor for the City of Marion.
