MARION, OH- (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Mayor Bill Collins announced the formation of a new initiative, the “Senior Task Force,” aimed at addressing the needs of the rapidly growing senior and elderly population in Marion City and Marion County.
The task force, a collaborative effort with the Marion County Commissioners, is spearheaded by Cassie Gregory, the Executive Director of the Marion County Council on Aging. The team comprises representatives from the Marion Senior Center, Marion County Health Department, Community Action, home health companies, skilled nursing facilities, and assisted living facilities.
“We are experiencing what is called the ‘Silver Tsunami’,” Mayor Collins stated. “Our goal is to get ahead of the many growing needs of our senior population before it becomes overwhelming.”
The Senior Task Force will identify the needs of the senior community and strategize actions to meet those needs. A significant event, the “Senior Summit,” is scheduled for August 27th at the Marion Senior Center. The summit will invite all local organizations serving the senior and elderly population.
