MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW) – The Marion Community Foundation is set for a leadership transition as Julie Prettyman steps in as the new President and CEO, succeeding Dean Jacob, who will retire on June 30, 2024, after a decade of service.

Dr. Charles Speelman, Chair of the Board of Directors, made the announcement, expressing confidence in Prettyman’s ability to lead the foundation. “Julie is everything we were hoping for, including love of our community, a passion for philanthropy, and vision for advancing Marion Community Foundation’s impact and growth,” said Speelman.

The decision comes after a nationwide search conducted by Ohio-based executive search firm, Finding Leaders. Despite the extensive search, the best fit for the position was found within their own ranks. Prettyman, currently serving as Vice President and Director of Programs, has been instrumental in the foundation’s success over the last 10 years.

Under Prettyman’s leadership, the foundation has administered nine grant programs, resulting in $2.5 million in annual grant dollars assisting local charities and nonprofits. This includes more than $500,000 in scholarships for area high school seniors and college students. She has also led the Foundation’s Youth Engaged in Philanthropy program and was instrumental in the development of two of the Foundation’s newest grant programs, the Racial Equity & Justice Grants Program and the TEACH Grants Program.

The Marion Community Foundation, established 25 years ago, has grown from one endowment fund to more than 500, supporting local charities and students’ higher education. The endowment pool has grown to $65 million in assets, thanks to the generosity of individuals, families, and organizations passionate about the Marion area.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead Marion Community Foundation and to continue the legacy of community impact that Dean Jacob and other leaders have accomplished,” said Prettyman.

Over the next two months, Jacob and Prettyman will work closely together, along with the Foundation’s Board of Directors and staff, to ensure a seamless transition.
