MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Marion County Auditor Joan Kasotis has announced that dog and kennel licenses for the upcoming year are available for purchase. Dog owners have until January 31 to obtain licenses without incurring penalties.

Dog tags are valid from the year listed on the tag until January 31 of the following year, regardless of the purchase date. All tags dated 2024 will expire on January 31, 2025.

Kasotis emphasized the importance of renewing licenses by January 31 to avoid penalties. Every dog aged three months or older is required to be licensed.

Three types of tags will be available:

  • One-year tag for $20.00
  • Three-year tag for $60.00
  • Permanent tag for $200.00

New this year are Altered Premium (Spayed/Neutered) tags, which offer discounted rates for dogs that have been spayed or neutered. To qualify for the discount, proof of spay/neuter status from a veterinarian is required at the time of initial registration. The discounted rates are only available for renewals when purchasing dog tags online.

The discounted rates are as follows:

  • One-year tag for $18.00
  • Three-year tag for $54.00
  • Permanent tag for $180.00

One-year and three-year tags are transferable from owner to owner but not from dog to dog. Permanent dog tags are not transferable.

Kasotis also noted that there are no refunds on any dog tags sold, and all sales are final. Payments must be postmarked no later than January 31st to avoid penalties.

Dog tags may be purchased online at doglicenses.us/OH/marion/. There is a surcharge of $2.25 per one-year license and $0.70 per order for online sales. Credit and debit cards with the Visa or MasterCard logo are accepted. The cutoff for online payments without penalty is 11:59 p.m. on January 31st. The Spayed/Neutered discount is only available for renewals when purchasing dog tags online.
