MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW)—Marion County Children’s Services has released a statement regarding a serious incident involving one of its staff members, identified as Erica Funfgeld.
On January 30, 2026, at approximately 2:20 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1000 block of Home Circle Drive in Bucyrus.
Following contact with the driver, identified as Erika Funfgeld, 27, of Westerville, officers observed criminal indicators. K-9 Capone was deployed to conduct a free-air sniff of the vehicle, and a search yielded suspected Fentanyl and Hydrocodone after a positive indication of narcotic odor.
Funtgeld admitted to smoking Fentanyl and was subsequently arrested for possession of Fentanyl and operating a vehicle while impaired. She was transported to the Crawford County
The agency has placed Funfgeld on administrative leave while the situation is under review.
In their statement, officials emphasized that the safety and well-being of children and families served by the agency is their top priority. “This is an extremely serious situation, and we are fully cooperating with the appropriate authorities,” the statement noted.
An internal review is currently being conducted to assess the impact on families involved, with leadership seeking guidance from state-level entities.
Due to ongoing legal processes and respect for the privacy of those involved, further details about the incident have not been disclosed.
Funfgeld remains in the Crawford County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
