MARION, OH (MARION COUNTY NOW) — Marion County residents cast their ballots on Tuesday, producing some unexpected results. Incumbent Marion County Common Pleas Judge W.T. Edwards was defeated in his re-election bid by local attorney Todd Anderson. Meanwhile, Judge Matthew Frericks successfully retained his seat, and Rhonda Burggraf ran unopposed for Family Division Judge.

In the sheriff’s race, incumbent Matt Bayles was re-elected without opposition. Similarly, County Treasurer Brandy Gandert, County Recorder Leslie Longstreth, and City Engineer Bradley Irons all secured their positions without challengers.

Several local levies attracted attention. The Green Camp Township Fire Department renewal levy was approved by voters, while Pleasant Township’s proposed eight-mill additional levy and renewal levy were both rejected. In Prospect Township, a replacement levy was passed, as was the levy for the First Consolidated Fire Department of Marion and Morrow Counties. The Fort Morrow Fire Department levy, which serves both Marion and Delaware Counties, also received voter approval.

However, the Marion City Park District’s proposed additional levy was turned down. In a more community-driven decision, the Marion Township Fire levy was successfully passed.

In a shift towards expanded services, voters approved Sunday liquor sales for Waldo Duchess Store, Taco Central, and Casey’s General Store.
